On August 26, the Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. announced that it will start sending recall notices to owners of certain Volkswagen and Audi models on October 25 because of a potential defect that can result in injury:
- The affected models are the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, 2020 Jetta and Jetta GLI, 2020 Tiguan, 2021 Volkswagen Atlas, and 2020 Audi Q5 and SQ5.
- Some of these vehicles potentially have improper welds on the seat frame and backrest adjuster that can cause the backrest adjustment to break during a rear-end crash.
For more information, Volkswagen owners should call (888) 241-2289. Audi owners should call (800) 822-2834. Certified dealers can also provide a free inspection of the welds and, if necessary, replace the seatback frames at no additional cost.
